The Cultural Administration works for a broad art and cultural life for everyone to participate in. We strive for a sustainable and open city that places culture and art at the center.
The Cultural Administration has approximately 800 employees who primarily work within libraries, cultural houses, museums, and other cultural activities.
Do you have an ongoing or completed university education in Library and Information Science? Do you want the chance to meet visitors at Gothenburg's libraries this summer? Then you might be the one we are looking for!
Within Gothenburg City, there are 25 public libraries and two children's book buses that belong to the Library and Cultural Houses department of the Cultural Administration.
We are now looking for you who want to work at our libraries during the spring and summer of 2026.
Job Responsibilities
The department offers a rich and varied selection that is accessible to all ages and target groups. We work with physical and digital media and provide programming for, by, and with Gothenburgers. Our libraries are well-visited, and during the summer, we have a lot to do, which means we need to strengthen our staff with extra personnel. You will become part of a supportive and competent team that does its best to ensure our libraries are meaningful for all our visitors.
You will work at one or more of our libraries and meet visitors from all over the city every day. You will participate in the regular library work with a focus on meeting our visitors in the library. Visitors who need guidance on how to use various digital tools will receive help from you. When visitors seek assistance with what type of book they want to borrow, you will also be there to provide reading tips and guidance or to answer other types of questions. Regular library work includes receiving media, setting up, and displaying both books and magazines. Depending on your previous experience, you may also have the opportunity to participate in our program activities both inside and outside the library during your summer job.
The summer job is a monthly paid temporary position at approximately 75% where you work daytime, evening, and weekends according to a schedule throughout the period of weeks 26-33. Orientation days will take place during week 25. There are also good opportunities to start supporting as an hourly paid employee already during the spring.
Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you need to:
- Have an ongoing or completed university education in Library and Information Science.
- Have worked in a library or in some other type of service work, public activity, or educational activity.

We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting people and has a good sense of service and reception. You have an interest in culture and literature and enjoy collaborating with others.
